In my career as a welder, I’ve mastered the industrial fabrication and welding of buildings and bridges and it has made my metalworking practice in my studio more focused on quality and attention to detail. It’s also made me more fearless than I think I’ve ever felt before. Hanging off the side of a multi-story building as part of my job has that effect, I guess!

Over this time, I’ve seen the endless waste that is standard practice in construction. All of my metal sculpture is made entirely from iron saved from the trash pile on various jobs I’ve worked. Using dirty, ugly “trash” and transforming it into something beautiful is the dichotomy that serves as a foundation of my work.

“There is endless beauty in the contrast between old and new, patinaed and polished, unwanted and adorned.”
